October 1st, 2024 – Article 14 protects your right not to be discriminated against in connection with your human rights under the Human Rights Act. However, many still are discriminated against. In 70% of countries worldwide, discrimination has worsened in recent years. These alarming trends demand action.
Research has shown that the way bystanders react to discrimination is crucial. Doing nothing can even lead to more discrimination. Bystanders who intervene can make the discriminator feel uncomfortable and perhaps guilty, which can motivate them to change their behavior. While not everyone will feel that way, many will. By challenging their actions, we can achieve lasting change.
Julie Hemels-Hoff, CEO & Founder of Blueyse: “With the #PullTheCard campaign, we want to call on people and activate them to stand up against inequality. By pulling the card, we show that we do not tolerate discrimination. Let’s be known as accepting than tolerating.”
The Discrimination Card
The Discrimination Card, available both physically and digitally, provides practical tools and inspiring stories to address discrimination. By using this card, we can start open conversations and challenge our own perceptions. Whether you’re on the street, at work, or online, you can make a difference with this card.
#PullTheCard
With the hashtag #PullTheCard, Blueyse encourages people to literally pull out the card and use it when they witness discrimination. It is not only the responsibility of the person being discriminated against to speak up but also of bystanders. By intervening, we can work together to create a society where everyone feels safe, seen, and respected.
